If you are a college student than you know one thing is for sure: money is very tight these days. As a college age kid you probably don’t have a job and there aren’t a lot of ways to increase your income while you are going to school full time. It’s part of the trappings of getting your education. However, that doesn’t mean that the experience you have with your personal computer should suffer. It’s clear that you should be able to do whatever you want with your laptop or desktop. There’s only one problem in that equation: you are no money for the latest and greatest in software.

If you haven’t heard there is something called open source software. It’s the best invention for the student who wants everything, but can’t afford to get anything. It’s software designed and operated by you, the user, and is available for free online. It’s part of the reason why the Internet is such a cool place to hang out. If you are interested in this software than take a few moments and think about the benefits to it over the expensive stuff you already have.

The software that you need costs money, but it doesn’t bring you any extra benefit from the free software. Sure, there is some name recognition, but that doesn’t mean anything. The truth of the matter is that these software cost money because these big companies are paying their people a lot of money to research and develop it. With open source software there are a number of people who are working on it for free. How? Well, because the code to the software is available to the public. This means that there is a number of people who can make improvements on it for free and you will reap the benefits. If you are interested in getting the best software for cheap, consider open source software for your computer.
