Keeping a computer secure nowadays is a challenge. With increasingly mounting computer viruses, Trojans, malwares, and many more such blasphemies clogging the home computers, staying secure has become a challenge. This has made lives of computer owners unbearable. Sometimes viruses delete important files or sometimes they can steal passwords and bank codes leading to monetary loss. There are very few ways to keep an operating system secure nowadays. Especially for computers with Windows OS installed. This is the largest and the most virus prone software on earth. There are many antivirus softwares that promise safety after paying hundreds of dollars. What If there were cheaper alternative softwares that can do the same job with more efficiency. The problem with choosing an antivirus of an open source is the fear that it itself can be a virus which could cause more damage than any other external virus. Hence before one chooses an antivirus, it is important to do a test run on a spare computer and see if it is contacting outside sources. Many companies offer free trail packages of their softwares which can be used for little attacks, but not for major attacks. These unlike the paid ones, do not promise you full protection. Hence before you choose any antivirus software, you need to be sure that it is not a virus. Download the software’s from a trusted external source. One of the best parts of open source software’s is that some can also be installed on Unix and Linux based systems.
